AZA Completes Sixth Trial of 2014 with Take-Nothing Win
May 14, 2014
HOUSTON – A Harris County jury has issued a take-nothing verdict for a Houston businesswoman who was sued over proceeds from allegedly fraudulent commercial property sales. The court victory marks the sixth trial completed by lawyers from the Houston law firm Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos, Alavi & Mensing P.C., or AZA, since the beginning of 2014.
East West Bank claimed that documents releasing its liens on certain commercial property were forgeries and sued, asking a jury to agree so that it could foreclose on the properties and recoup millions. AZA successfully defended its client against claims that she received money from the commercial property sales and should be ordered to turn that money over.
“It is always rewarding to sit beside a client at the defense table and hear the jury issue a take-nothing verdict,” says AZA lawyer Elizabeth Pannill Fletcher, who tried the case with AZA founding partner John Zavitsanos.
Mr. Zavitsanos says he’s proud that this is already the firm’s sixth trial verdict as of May of this year, including several jury wins.
“We are a 31-lawyer firm with a deep bench of truly trial-ready attorneys, and the power that gives us inside and outside the courtroom is extraordinary,” he says.
The case, tried in the 157th State District Court in Harris County, is East West Bank v. Peterson Group Inc., et al., No. 2011-06884.
