Lizzie Fletcher’s Father’s Day Essay about Her Lawyer-Dad Published in Texas Lawbook
June 20, 2017

HOUSTON – A heartfelt essay that trial lawyer Elizabeth “Lizzie” Pannill Fletcher wrote about her lawyer-dad was published in Texas Lawbook for Father’s Day.

In the article headlined “The Stories of my Father,” Ms. Fletcher, a business litigator at AZA, or Ahmad, Zavitsanos & Mensing, recounts what a fine storyteller her dad is and how it influenced her career choice.

“Storytelling, I came to learn, is also his delivery vehicle for the quintessential dad activity: giving advice,” she wrote. “Before he became an oil and gas lawyer, my dad Bill Pannill was a newspaper reporter. And he never lost his newspaperman ways – especially in speaking and writing.”

But once he became a lawyer, the third generation in the family to pursue that career, he loved his work.

“For as long as I can remember, my dad said I should be a lawyer,” Ms. Fletcher wrote. After she finished college and was thinking about graduate school for history or public policy, father and daughter had a heart-to-heart lunch.

“… He took the opportunity to tell me more stories about his life as a lawyer, and what he loved about it. It was true I’d always known he loved his work. And he gave me another piece of useful advice that day: Law is history; law is public policy; and if those are the things that interest and inspire you, be a lawyer.

“In the years that I have been in practice, I have seen how true that is.”

Now, Ms. Fletcher is running for the U.S. House, a candidate for the 7th Congressional District of Texas.
