AZA Hosts 1st Annual Ramadan Iftar Dinner for Friends and Family

HOUSTON – The litigation boutique AZA, or Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Alavi, & Mensing P.C., held its 1st Annual Ramadan Iftar Dinner May 21 for friends and family at the firm’s downtown Houston offices.

Iftar is the evening meal Muslims enjoy as they end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset. Though many law firms celebrate Christian holidays, it is very unusual for law firms in the U.S. to celebrate Muslim events.

“This seems like an appropriate celebration with the growing Muslim community in Houston and around the country,” said Joe Ahmad, a founding partner of AZA. He noted that the full name of the AZA firm includes two Muslim members, and there are several other practicing Muslims at the firm.

“The Iftar is an example of AZA’s support for its attorneys’ identities and a great way to welcome our summer associate class, including those who will be observing Ramadan,” said AZA associate Shahmeer Halepota.

AZA’s gathering room was festooned with lanterns and candles. The dinner featured food from Aga’s Restaurant and Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill, and around 80 lawyers, judges, family members and friends attended.
