Karen Peck has significant experience in counseling employers and executives on employment issues, as well as in employment litigation and administrative proceedings. She also has many years of experience in commercial litigation.
Ms. Peck has represented employers in cases brought under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Title VII, the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act, among others. In addition, she has counseled numerous employers with regard to employment policies and issues relating to employee discipline and employment policies generally. Ms. Peck also represents executives and professionals in negotiating employment contracts, departure terms, severance agreements, and similar issues.
In the commercial litigation area, Ms. Peck has experience in cases involving contractual disputes as well as high-stakes litigation between data management and software companies. She has represented employers in enforcing covenants not to compete and protecting their trade secrets. She has successfully obtained summary judgment for a major energy company in a dispute with a franchisee, and has represented many businesses and non-profit organizations in business litigation. She also has represented telephone and electric companies in the Texas courts and before the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
Ms. Peck has also undertaken significant pro bono work and is very active in the Houston community. From May 2013 to May 2022, she served as an elected Trustee for the Spring Branch Independent School District, serving as Board President for two years. She was a founding director of TAMSA, Texans Advocating for Meaningful Student Assessment, and previously served on the Boards of the Alley Theatre and Writers in the Schools, as well as on the Board of Trustees and the Church Council of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Prior to associating with the firm, Ms. Peck practiced in the Dallas and Houston offices of Baker Botts, L.L.P. Previously, she worked as an in-house attorney for Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems in Dallas.
