Justin Kenney is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation.
He has successfully managed all stages of highly technical cases, including class actions, bankruptcy litigation, copyright litigation, and patent litigation.
Some of Mr. Kenney’s achievements for his clients include:
- Winning a no-liability $0 verdict in a $289 million business fraud and fiduciary duty jury trial on behalf of a Fortune 500 company. Mr. Kenney presented the second half of the opening statement and directed two witnesses, including the client’s representative.
- First-chairing a federal jury trial in a copyright infringement case. In addition to coordinating the trial team, Mr. Kenney crossed the primary adverse witness and delivered most of the closing statement.
- Obtaining a temporary injunction following a hotly-contested hearing in which Mr. Kenney delivered the opening statement and cross examined a key witness.
- Securing a first-of-its kind class certification in a data privacy case involving novel legal and technical issues. Mr. Kenney delivered the winning oral argument on behalf of the classes.
- Mediating a pre-litigation dispute which resulted in a valuable and business-savvy resolution.
- Winning numerous evidentiary and dispositive motions on novel legal issues.
From 2022-2026, he was named one of “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch” – a national peer award that recognizes attorneys for outstanding professional excellence early in their careers.
Mr. Kenney’s passion for the courtroom began at Harvard Law School, where he represented indigent defendants in state court criminal matters and successfully litigated a pro bono lawsuit under the Americans with Disabilities Act. He was also an award-winning member of the Harvard Law School Mock Trial Team. After graduation, he clerked first with the Honorable Justice Lenk of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and then the Honorable Judge Mark L. Wolf of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
When he’s not in the courtroom, Mr. Kenney enjoys mentoring the next generation of trial lawyers by coaching with University of Houston Law School’s Mock Trial Team and serving in leadership roles with the Houston Symphony’s Young Associate’s Council.
Prior to joining AZA, Mr. Kenney practiced litigation at Susman Godfrey, LLP.
